Went to Tokyo Game Show 2006
Went to the Tokyo Game Show super early today with Roy, Brad and Reika. Well, I guess it’s not really super early cuz we met up at Tokyo station at 9:30am. But for the last 5 years, I would meet Hing Dai at about 12-1pm. So, yeah, when compared, it is early…
I remember, during my first 2 years or so in Tokyo, the Tokyo Game Show was held twice a year. Then from my third year onwards, it changed to once a year. This is kinda understandable considering not many games can be released in one year by any one developer. So back when the Tokyo Game Show happened twice a year, usually the developers repeated showing what they showed 6 months earlier. I think this was the contributing factor for the change since admission declined.

Now that the Tokyo Game Show is held only once a year, a lot more momentum is generated for the goods on show with the venue being far too crowded. This year, it had to be the Wii or the PlayStation 3. Sadly, I did not get to see any Wii machines on demo in any of the developer’s booths! Brad did mention he saw a booth babe demo-ing Sonic the Hedgehog on the Wii but in the form of a video! WTF?! OK, maybe Nintendo has their own Nintendo Space World event to show off their gear but I mean, come on… even the developer’s cannot have demo unit’s for their games at the Tokyo Game Show?! Man….

The Xbox 360 had quite some exposure as usual with their huge booth. After walking through the games area, I was more than disappointed with the visual quality of the games. OK, I admit, I have no idea how well these games play (the most important factor) but isn’t one of the biggest raves regarding the XBOX 360 suppose to be it’s brilliant graphics capabilities? Besides being HD, none of the visuals made me even say, “looks good”. They were just very, very normal.
PlayStation 3 - this is the sh*tz in terms of graphics prowess! Devil May Cry 4, Gran Turismo HD, Metal Gear Solid 4, Virtua Fighters 5, etc., all boast some of the most impressive graphics on any system to date! Sony’s claims regarding the PlayStation 3 really is shaping up to be just that! And, I may even join Roy to camp outside a reseller 48hrs before the launch just to get my hands on the high-end PlayStation 3! Nah…

Besides the above, I really dunno what to write about the Tokyo Game Show partly because I didn’t wait in line to try any of the games therefore I can’t tell you how responsive or how well the games feel/play. And regarding my pics, I could only take pics of the external booths. No photography was allowed where the games were being shown unless you were a member of the press. So, that kinda sucked. Booth Babes? Erm… I’ve never really taken more than 8-10 pics of booth babes. They don’t exactly do anything for me even though there are usually a couple of really hot ones each year. Sadly, today, I did not even come across one hot babe… oh well. You can check out this for this years TGS booth babes.
Oh, oh, oh… as with every year, I really hoped to be able to meet Mizuguchi Tetsuya (creator of Sega Rally, Space Channel 5, Rez, Lumines, etc.) at the TGS but again, he was no where to be found…
Anyway, until next year…
I hope I can go to the TGS soon >_>
Oh yeah, goo.ne.jp released a crapload of boothbabe pics :p (as they do every year)

Sunday I met Roy and Eddie and Reika to hit the Tokyo Game Show. I had actually planned to go with Mao, but she ended up not being able to make it. Hanging out with a cute girl always beats……
