Adobe Lightroom
I’ve been using Adobe’s Lightroom since the very first beta release to deal with my photos and have been dying to see the progress of this software ever since.
I bet some of you are surprised as to why a die-hard Apple fan like me is using Adobe’s offering instead of Apple’s Aperature, huh? Well, since Aperature v1 got slammed by everyone who bought it due to it’s sloppyness and the fact that the software wasn’t even finished, I was totally put off. Not to also mention, I only had a PowerBook G4 1.5GHz back then which would probably crawl if Aperature was installed on it.
Anyway, I guess it’s kinda pointless for me to review Lightroom as there are a ton of reviews out there already. Simply put: so far, so good with Lightroom beta 4, IMHO. Don’t exactly expect it to fly but the speed is more than acceptable and it is feature rich. Everything you need is all there layed out logically - very user-friendly. The new Aperature v1.5 had better be improved a lot otherwise Lightroom will give it some problems.
I’m begining to wonder how much the final shipping version of Lightroom would cost. Apple’s Aperature pretty much does the same thing so I guess it’s a good indication as to how much this kinda software would retail for. And it isn’t exactly cheap - US$299!
