New 24-inch iMac

designimacfamily20060906.jpgHow’s that for a cheap consumer-level computer? A 24-inch iMac! Damn, the 20-inch looks so small next to it! Besides the new whopping 24-inch screen, all these updated iMacs now sport the new 64-bit Core 2 Duo.

This new iMac was rumoured to debut on 12th September at the Apple “Showtime” media event but seems like they decided to release the thing now instead. I hope this means that Apple has some cooler stuff to announce at the event.

To be honest, I really don’t know how fast these Intel chips are (Core Duo, Core 2 Duo, Xeon). And I’m unwilling to find out until Adobe Creative Suit arrives. This is exactly why monopoly sucks!! Intel-Macs came out in January of this year and Adobe isn’t gonna release an Intel-Mac native version of CS until next year! If there were other good photo-editing programs like PhotoShop around, would Adobe really wait till next year?! One f*ing big sigh…

Anyway, the same goes: no native Adobe CS, no Intel Mac for moi…

Hello Kitty TV

HKTV.jpgSanrio, the cute character inventors, will roll out this Apple shaped LCD TV on September 27. And which of their character is better to slap on this thing than Hello Kitty? Yep, that flat white cat that is gaining popularity across the globe.

The LCD screen measures 9.6 inches with a resolution of 800×600, the speakers are on either side of the screen doors and will be revealed once opened, the TV set weighs 7kg, measures W:355mm D:115mm H:420mm, power ranges from 100ー240V (basically, universal), and will be available in Japan via Sanrio’s online store for ¥84,000.

If I had a daughter, I’d probably definitely get this cuz I personally think it is cute and would look great in a child’s bedroom or play area. But I don’t have a kid so that’s that. Hmmmmm… if my brother’s girls were still 8-12, I’d probably get it for them. How would a 14 and 16yr old girl look with one of these?

Gene therapy frees men of cancer

Two men have been cleared of deadly skin cancer using genetically modified versions of their own immune cells.

Before the experiment, the patients were expected to only live for three to six months because their disease was so advanced.

The treatment meant he was well enough to attend his daughter’s wedding last year. Last week, doctors pronounced him completely clear of cancer cells.

    Pokemon RPG edition DS Lite

poke_ds2.jpgHot on the heels of both the Pokemon and Final Fantasy versions of the DS Lite comes this Pokemon Diaruga Parukia (??) edition which debuts on September 28th with the Pokemon RPG game. And it’s black? How cool is that? 2 characters are printed on the cover of the DS Lite: one character in glittering diamond gold, the other in glittering diamond silver. Both characters are stylised quite a bit therefore there is no cute factor here, instead leaning more towards a cool factor. Come to think of it, I think the Japanese name for this DS Lite (Diaruga Parukia) may mean Diamond Pearl? Diamond and Pearl? Anyway… I can’t figure it out…

    Update 2006.09.05 :
Another new limited DS Lite design, Winning Eleven DS edition, that is tied-in with the game release.

    Nikon D80 debut

nikon.jpgYes, it is 1st September today, the day the Nikon D80 hits the shelves! So, did I go to see it? Well, the pic here says it all…

I visited a few dealers today and every dealer had geeks of all ages lining up to get their hands on this thing! And of course, I had to touch it too therefore I joined the geeks and became one myself. All I can say about the D80 is, it’s one sexy piece of gear! The size is as small as a D-SLR should go. I’m all for making D-SLRs lighter but not smaller. To be honest, I think some guys with larger hands may feel a bit uncomfortable with the D80. The handgrip is actually a little shorter than the D50’s but what makes the D50 acceptable is the fact that it does not have the front dial. The D80 has a front dial therefore when you need to use it, you have to move your last 3 fingers down a little. My little finger was actually half hanging off from the bottom of the handgrip because of this. But this isn’t too bad for me as my hands are average sized. I suggest guys with big hands go to see the D80 for yourselves first before ordering one off the internet.
