AU Design Project’s INFOBAR2
AU Design Project finally showed off their INFOBAR2 concepts after weeks of teasing and I’m totally digging the design!
I liked the design of the original INFOBAR when it came out about 2 years ago but even at that time, the spec was rather low which kinda put me off. Also, being the aesthetics guy that I am (and a pretty anal one at that), I was begging for answers as to why that big fat antenna had to be there sticking out of the body! But anyway, what really stopped me from getting the original INFOBAR was because it wasn’t running on AU’s high-speed WIN service, which was new and all-the-rave back then.
A year or so after the original INFOBAR’s release came the talby. The talby was designed by Australian-born designer, Mark Newson (whom has worked across a wide range of disciplines to create everything from chairs, household objects, a bicycle and a concept car to restaurants, a recording studio and interiors of private and commercial jets, etc., etc.), and happens to share some aesthetic similarities with the INFOBAR amid more design prowess and perfection went into it. Spec-wise was also just so-so but again, it wasn’t on the WIN service therefore I couldn’t bring myself to getting a talby.
If INFOBAR2 makes it to the market resembling this concept model (the more probable design of the lot) with today’s AU cellphone specs, I think AU would really have a winner on their hands (even though I’m concerned about the curved front panel) and may even persuade some cellphone users whom are using other networks to switch!
INFOBAR2
The innovative INFOBAR features a distinctive shape - as if rectangular candy began melting and became rounded in the mouth which is an organic and natural change. The shape, therefore, fits perfectly in one’s hands and goes smoothly into a pocket. The evolution of INFOBAR is synchronous with a gradual change of machines taking on the characteristic of human roundness. The smooth and lustrous single surface of INFOBAR has operation keys of various colours and a display screen, all of which are elegantly placed in harmony with each other. INFOBAR has a newly established style that differs from that of other mobile phones. It is now a regular bar-type information device loved by people thanks to its easy operation and excellent portability. INFOBAR2 has all new functionality and maintains the much-loved style of the original.
Yeah, I really like the Infobar2 too. It might be the one that gets me to switch to AU.
