Free Sony TVs with PS3

playstation3.jpgYes, thats frikkin’ right! For a lot of gamers in London who splashed out £425 (¥98,500) for a PS3 at the midnight launch in Virgin Megastore, were given a ‘free‘ £2,500 (¥579,000) hi-def Sony Bravia TV! For that price, I suspect the TV is probably 47-inches! The TV give-away supposedly cost Sony £250,000 (not sure if manufacture or retail price) which means they gave away well over 100 of them!

And if the free TV wasn’t enough, Sony also made sure that every gamer got a ‘free’ taxi ride home to avoid getting mugged! Man, I could have flown back to UK, got a PS3 and free TV, sell-off just the TV to cover my trip and I’d still be left with over a grand! Insane!

Media Skin launches 3/23

mediaskin_docked.jpg

… which happens to be this coming Friday. As much as I love the design of the Media Skin, I’ve actually let the chance of owning it slip by recently getting the Sony Ericsson W44S.

No doubt, the Media Skin is probably one of the coolest phones around but just like all designer phones that have come before it, the specs for some components seem out-of-date. I understand that a phone like this is more about the ‘looks’ than the ’spec’ but sometimes I really wonder, why the sacrifices?

16th Tokyo Toy Festival

… held at the Tokyo Big Sight International Exhibition Center. And it was crap beyond belief. Would have had more fun staying at home doing the laundry and cleaning out Ulala’s cage.

Apartment auto-locks

11.jpg

In Japan (and most of the world), a lot of apartments have something known as ‘auto-lock’ on the entrance of an apartment complex. Basically, it just locks the entrance automatically within 5 seconds once the door closes. To be able to enter the apartment complex you will have to be a resident with either a key or a passcode (usually 4 digits). Auto-locks contribute towards security which gives the residents a piece-of-mind and allows the owner/landlord to charge a little more for their rooms. Anyway, lets forget about the details and pros and cons…

Plum trees blossom

DSC_1406.jpg

I went to Ome yesterday which is about 1 hr 30 mins train ride away from central Tokyo (Ome is still Tokyo) to see some blossomed plum trees. Ome city is pretty famous for plum trees and there are lots of parks/gardens around. Because I woke up rather late (I arrived in Ome at 3:30pm), I only visited one place called ‘Ume no koen’ which literally translate to Plum Garden (15 mins walk from the station) and it happened to be rather crowded. This place has lots of plum trees and they were all in blossom - the whole place was white, pink and purple.

More Venom surfacing

brock.jpg… from the Spider-Man 3 movie due on May 4th! Man, I just so can’t wait to see this movie! Best yet, Sony Pictures International Japan has announced that the movie will open here before the rest of the world! Yep, that’s right! The movie will open from May 1st here in Tokyo!

And if that isn’t cool enough, the World Premiere will also happen here in Tokyo! It’ll be on April 16th at my favourite cinema, the Toho Theater in Roppongi Hills (they have great caramel popcorn!), with director Sam Raimi, Stan Lee and stars Tobey Maguire, Kirsten Dunst and James Franco in attendance. I wonder how we normal mortals can obtain tickets… or is it for the Japanese celebrities only?? Oh well…
