Spider-Man 3 movie and exhibition

spidey_01.jpg

Yep, Spider-Man 3 opens in Tokyo from today and I went to see it with Roy, Brad and Reika at the Toho Cinemas in Roppongi Hills. Despite this being the cinema that I frequented the most, I never knew that tickets cost only ¥1,000 on the 1st of every month! Just shows how much attention I pay to things…

Anyway, what can I say about the movie? It was great! Everything I expected it to be. As good as it was, I do feel that this movie is a little weaker than the first 2. That is not to say the movie is crap. I think it is due to the vast amount of characters this movie has to deal with: a changing Peter Parker, a changing Harry, the Sandman, Eddie Brock, the Venom symbiote, Gwen Stacy, etc. Some of these characters, I feel, did not get enough screen time. But the special FX and all the action, especially the orgy, is fantastic! I’ll leave it at that otherwise I’d be going into the movie thus spoiling it for those who have yet to see it…

Spider-Man - The world’s first exhibition in Roppongi Hills

spiderman.gifAfter the movie, we dropped by the Mori Arts Center Gallery, which is right next to the cinema, for the Spider-Man exhibition. The exhibition runs from April 12 - May 20 and costs ¥1,300 for admission. The exhibition centers around the 3 Spider-Man movies with lots of production art, production videos, conceptual sketches, and movie props. Props include: some of the costumes worn by Mary Jane, Spiderman in his trademark blue and red costume, Spiderman in his black costume, Green Goblin’s glider, Junior Goblin in his costume with the hover board and pumpkin bombs, Doc Ock with his tentacles, Venom with his jaws open, Eddie Brock bust with bits of the symbiote on his head and face, the Sandman, etc, etc, etc.

It was actually really cool to see these actual props because in the movies, everything looks great, but in real life, some of the stuff look really tacky. The Spidey outfits were actually a little tacky but things like the Goblin Glider and Doc Ock’s tentacles ooze an insane amount of detail! All of which you cannot see in the movies even if the camera was up close. Crazy stuff!

Unfortunately, no cameras were allowed in the exhibition therefore I have no pics of these great movie props. Actually, you cannot even chew gum in there! One of the ladies approached me, obviously realising I was chewing, and asked if I was chewing gum and that it was not allowed… boooooooooo

But yeah, if you are in Tokyo and happen to be a fan of the Spidey movies, I highly recommend you checkout the exhibition and see the movie props for yourselves.

I watched it today, and it was pretty weak. Indeed not enough screentime for most new characters. As if they rushed the movie to put as much in it as possible. I expected more tbh. :s
