Star Wars

After seeing Spider-Man 3 and going to the Spider-Man exhibition two weeks ago, me and the guys headed off to a restaurant for an early dinner where we discussed about movies. Can’t remember how it was brought up, but Star Wars was mentioned… (below is roughly the dialogue. Not 100% accurate):
Me: “I’ve never seen Star Wars”
Roy: “Huh, what the… ? You’ve never seen Star Wars?”
Brad: “Huh?”
Reika: looks really surprised
Me: “Well, not from start to finish. Any of them”
Roy: “You are saying, you have never watched Star Wars? How could that be?”
Me: “Dunno. I guess I was more into JAWS back then” << what a looser!
Brad: “Everyone has seen Star Wars. A lot of people say that movie changed everything. It’s like, the movie!”
Me: “…”
Roy: “How could you have never seen Star Wars?”
Me: “…”
Brad: “I’d understand if you were a girl, but… come on”
… then the topic died off. But 20 minutes later, out of the blue… :
Roy: “You’ve never seen Star Wars? I can’t believe that. How could you have never seen Star Wars?”
Well, no offense but believe it or not, I’ve never watched any of the 6 movies in full. I know for sure that the full movies were playing during my days while I was either at home or at friend’s birthday parties, etc. The fact is, I really cannot remember the story nor most of the key scenes in any of the Star Wars movies. Prequels 4, 5, and 6 1, 2 and 3, I definitely did not see – I just saw a few scenes here and there. But the original three movies… arrrrrgh, I can’t remember. Although I wasn’t into Star Wars, I did have quite a few of the toys though when I was a kid and do know the names like, “Luke Skywalker, Han Solo, Darth Vader, etc. Hahahahaha… me proud of that!
Or, maybe I did watch them but since I was a kid and wasn’t really into it, non of it sank in? I just don’t know. One thing I do know though and that is, I was never into it and I can’t see that I ever will be…
Am I the only guy in this age group who has never seen Star Wars nor feel anything towards it? Well then, if that is the case, the ‘force’ will definitely choose not to side with me…

WTF? Get your ass to the video store and rent all of them.. right now!
Ummm, no offence, but to have not seen Star Wars is pretty gay.
See them, even just for the sake of being able to say you have. My son’s 2 and knows lines from all 6 films.
Oh yeah, and you got the sequence of prequel versus original trilogies out of whack in your blog. The originals are 456 and the prequels are 123.
WTF?!!? I agree with lincoln; not having seem them is gay. About as gay as having “I will survive” as your cellphone ring sound.
I am still perplexed. How could you have not seen Star Wars?!
What happened when you were a kid?
I have never seen them either..now i dont feel bad!
Good for you Eddie!
I, too, have not seen Star Wars. And I don’t intend to. What I find “gay,” Lincoln, is feeling the need to point out the fact that his “sequence of prequel versus original trilogies [was] out of whack”. Way to solidify the stereotype!!
Now, where is MY interview for E news?
You’re not alone Eddie! I have never seen Star Wars and I really have no desire to. What I find interesting is that people are truly amazed that I haven’t seen these movies. Maybe it’s the stereotype of the people that LOVE star wars, or just the plain stupidity of the movies themselves…I don’t know. Just never felt like I was missing out on something great!
I agree with Danielle…where’s MY interview!!!
Eddie- You are not alone. I managed to live my life Star Wars free for 27 years. Of course I had heard of Star Wars and the characters from the movies, but I had never actually sat down and gave up 13 hours of my life to watch these movies. I then married one of the biggest Star Wars fans. He owns all of the Star Wars DVD’s and even a few collectibles. Now while my 10 year old daughter has seen each movie at least once, I have yet to give up my time to watch them entirely. Please don’t feel alone in this giant world. Even though there are millions of people who live the jungles and desserts of the world and they haven’t seen the movies, it seems that there might be a handful of us in the civilized world who haven’t. I don’t know about you, but I would rather my 2 year old know his alphabet than lines from any movie! A person’s knowledge of pop culture is no way to base a person’s character.
Danielle, Nichole, Eddie.
Here is a serious explanation as to why so many people would make a big deal about Star Wars, and not having seen it. I don’t know how old you are but it’s really hard to understand unless you were about 10-15 years old at that time. When Star Wars came out there was absolutely nothing like it. No one had ever seen anything as amazing as it before and it opened up our imaginations in a way that affected the lives and careers of many people.
Objectively, Star Wars is only just a mediocre film really, but it was a significant event at the right time. It was significant to the way the movie industry was changed and how movies were made and marketed. Films in the ’70s were very dark and real and depressing. Star Wars was the escapism that the society needed at that time. Whether this is good or bad is subjective but the fact remains that Star Wars was one of the most significant films in history because of it’s influence into so many areas of society.
If you grew up in the post Star Wars generation you probably wouldn’t be too impressed with the films because everything else that came after it was better. But you have to remember that everything else after Star Wars was inspired by it. I’m referring to the very first film here.
That’s why people are amazed when they hear someone has not seen it. To many people it’s not just a movie, it was a historical event that moved them profoundly. The special DVD in the trilogy box has some great documentaries about the history of Star Wars that may help you to understand the impact the film had. It may not motivate you to like the films but at least you can understand why people are so fanatic. You may not have any desire to see the films I don’t think you can fully understand that generation without seeing the films.
STAR WARS SUCKS!!!! LORD OF THE RINGS IS THE BEST MOVIE EVER MADE!!! HAIL PETER JACKSON!!!
Peter Jackson? Seriously? Hahahahahahaha. LOTR is queer. Sorry but I will have to agree with Randle from Clerks 2 and say that a three movie series about some barefoot whiney freaks walking to a volcano is pretty dumb, and Frito is a fag.
HEY LOTRFAN THERE’S ONLY ONE TRILOGY, AND ONLY ONE RETURN AND IT SURE AIN’T RETURN OF THE KING.
