My love for red meat

Those who know me well are well aware that I’m a big, big fan of red meat. Well, not just red meat, all meat for that matter. I’m always craving for meat and if there is one meal that I eat in a day which contains no meat, I somewhat feel as if I have no energy…

Anyway, those who have read my old blog will realise that I used to eat out pretty often and whenever I do, I will always have a blog entry with pics to wet your appetite. But that was the old days. These days, I rarely ever meet people, let alone, dine in nice places. I spend literally all my time holed up in my little neighbourhood where there are a few restaurants; soba and tempura, a few family restaurants, a few izakayas, a few ramen shops, a few yakinikus, chinese restaurants, burger joints, steak house, etc., etc., all at rather cheap prices. Anyway…

The other day (Wed) I visited the local steak house. It’s not that often that I get steak so when I do, I’m all worked up about it. Damn, juicey big fat steak! But on that day I went, the steak was horrible! It was not juicey and the meat was rather bitty… like, you know, you chew it and it all falls apart in your mouth? Yeah, it was like that. The hamburger steak was just as bad! I’ve visited this place a few times before and although it is not outstanding (you get what you pay for), it was never this bad. So yeah, I was pretty bummed. Actually, the so called ‘seafood salad’ was better (few pieces of salmon, few shrimps, tiny bit of seaweed, and loadsa onions!).

And yes, I am aware of all the implications associated with eating too much red meat such as high blood pressure, heart desease, cancer, etc., etc., but I just can’t help it… I’m craving for meat as we speak….

Wish I had this kind of variety of food. Steak (if you can call it that) in my uni is dry and thin and reminds me a lot of cardboard.

I have no idea what you paid for that steak but you can’t get a decent steak in Japan for less than 3000 yen. (Yes, there are lunch specials which are less than that, but the portions are small and the steak still isn’t good.)

Really good steak in Japan starts around 4000 yen. Have you been to Beacon in Aoyama? Aussie beef. Very well-aged and seasoned. Highly recommended.

Just like I never recommend eating cheap sushi in Japan (except if you’re at Tsukiji market, which isn’t actually that cheap) eating cheap beef in Japan is often horrendous.

I didn’t realize you ate that much meat. I used to not meat at all…but realized my body actually funtions much better with a bit of meat. Not all protein is the same. However, I’m a once or twice a month type of meat-person. And I don’t like beef. Duck is my fav. Then chicken if cooked nicely and not dry. Pork competes with chicken; depends on the restaurant (I never cook meat myself).

I heartily agree! What’s your opinion on Kobe beef?
