Pepsi Ice Cucumber

That’s right folks, another new bizarre soft drink on the Japanese market. And indeed just like the title suggests, it is soda which tastes like… cucumber.

I Am Legend

iamlegend.jpgYes, indeed I am a living legend! Hahahaha… kidding! ‘I Am Legend‘ is actually the name of Will Smith’s new movie (trailer here) .

I’ve been a big fan of Will Smiths’ dating back to the early 90s ever since he played the streetwise teenager from West Philadelphia in the popular American tv comedy sitcom, ‘The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air‘. He was just hilarious in the comedy and everything he did just cracked me up. His virgin cousin (in the drama), Carlton, is also darn funny too. Boy, did I love the show back in the good old school days…

Since then, I’ve pretty much seen most of Will Smith’s hit movies. Some good, some bad, but his acting was always top-notch. The synopsis for ‘I Am Legend’ (below) pretty much sums up that it is a zombie movie… nooooooooooooo! I hate zombie movies! They’re just dumb - a bunch of idiotic looking people walking around silly and chewing on the living, doh!

London 2012 logo: Iconic or awful?

london2012sml.gifFollowing yesterday’s revealing of the upcoming London 2012 Olmpic game’s logo design, BBC has setup this page allowing readers to submit their feedback regarding what they think of the logo design. Seems like there is a lot of public and design industry debate going on right now in England. And some of the comments, OUCH!

And, it is not hard to see why. Apparently, Wolff Olins brand/design agency spent a year on this (of course not just on this one design, probably a good few selections) and charged £400,000 (that is approx. Euro590,448 / US$796,558 / JP¥96,906,481) of tax-payers money for it. That’s a heck of a lot of money for a logo considering the money could be spent more usefully on things such as the poor NHS (National Health Service), pensioner housing, etc., (but there will always be arguments like this when tax payer’s money are in question).

London 2012 Olympic logo

Well, today the London 2012 Olympic games logo design is revealed and will continue to evolve for the next few years. It looks pretty fresh, simplistic and contemporary but I really don’t know if I like it or not and nor do I know what it is trying to say/how to interpret the thing. Oh well, it’ll probably grow on me as time goes by….

Worked up about iPhone again

After 6 months since the iPhone announcement, I’m worked up about it again after seeing these new commercials.

To be very honest, I kinda forgot about the iPhone after the announcement. Afterall, the announcement was in early January and the thing doesn’t ship till the end of this month in US. I mean, 6-7 months from announcement till launch is a very long time. Long enough for me to forget just how awesome the user interface is. Basically, for the last few months, I just didn’t catch onto the hype nor thought much about the iPhone. But after seeing the new commercials and seeing the user interface in action again, boy all I can say (again) is, this thing is incredible!

I’m still waiting to see a new iPod based on the iPhone’s technology! It’s taking forever…

Female clothing fetish

Some of the news in Japan just cracks me up. It is not so much about the news itself, but it is what some people get up to here. And some are so bizarre yet happens all the time. And since Japan is a pretty safe country, there’s just not enough ‘real’ news to report. Instead, they report stuff which is in most cases, not really news…

Yesterday, I was watching the news about some Japanese dude in Osaka who got busted for stealing a Kimono. When the police searched his home, they found a whopping 8,200 pieces of womens underwear and other clothings such as a wedding dress! Hahahahaha. And his apartment, believe it or not, is one-roomed! I’ve lived in a one-room apartment before here in Tokyo and let me tell you, it’s really small (dunno about Osaka, though). So how the heck did this dude fit all those stolen clothes in there especially considering, the police had to mobilise 5 mini buses to move the stuff out? Totally beats me…

Iconoclasm

Icons: space- and time-saving wonders, or just another language we have to learn?

I’m quoted in this article on Wall Street Journal Online by Jeremy Wagstaff regarding how useful icons really are and what they represent. Got to know Jeremy via a very generous and very well-connected friend, Gen.
