Fish & chips

Being a Brit and having not stepped on British soil since the end of 2003, a lot of times I get this bad crave for good ol’ English food, namely, fish & chips and pasty (both pictured above)!

So where do I get my fix here in Tokyo when the crave kicks in? Well, one of only a handful of choices is to visit an English pub where food is also served and the franchise, The Rose & Crown Victorian pub, happens to be just the place.

A few weeks back (when these pics were taken), I happened to be starving while I was out and about in Yurakucho and when I came across the Yurakucho branch of The Rose & Crown, I just had to invite myself in for some grub.

All branches of the Rose & Crown are decorated in pretty much the same way – recreating a stereotypical interior of an authentic Victorian-era London pub, with fixtures like emerald green hanging lamps, wooden carved walls and furniture, etc., etc. Obviously, being a pub, you more or less can get any drink you desire. Atmosphere wise, yeah, it’s usually pretty lively with lots of gaijins (foreigners). Food wise, erm… hmmmmmm… let’s put it this way: it’s probably the closest to the real-deal I could get here.

And, who said British food sucks?! British food rocks! Hahahahaha…

Ooh, I could show you a place in Tokyo where you can get much better fish and chips than that…. my secret little place though and I don’t want it full everytime I want to eat there!

The Hub also attempts to do fish and chips, doesn’t it, but I have no idea where they learnt how to cook it like that.
