My iPod touch Jailbroken

Jailbreaking iPhones and iPods ain’t exactly a new thing but it is for me because until now, the Jailbreak software was for Intel-Macs (and PCs) only.

Yep, you guessed right, I do not have an Intel-Mac despite being an Apple whore. I currently use G5 and G4 machines but I do have access to a PC which I’d rather not touch. So… I waited until now for the PPC (PowerPC) version of Jailbreak (1.1.2).

Jailbreaking the iPod touch was pretty simple (although certain parts of the instructions could have been written in a bit more detail). Once your iPod or iPhone is Jailbroken, you’re ready to install 3rd party softwares… and there is no shortage of them. I only installed the original softwares that came with the iPhone, namely: Apple mail, notes, google maps, and weather (widget). I seriously doubt I’d be bothered with the other softwares (not to mention, the iPod touch is only 16gb).

Anyway, Jailbreaking the iPod touch was a success for me although I have heard that many people actually screwed up their iPods/iPhones during the process. If you’re not afraid of screwing it up, here are the links. Good luck!

So is it because you wanted the 1.1.2 version? Because I jailbreaked my 1.1.1 from the iTouch itself.

I haven’t gotten around to get 1.1.2 yet.

I’ll say it. What’s jailbreak? You mean the iPod doesn’t usually look like that?

The iPod touch /iPhone, as standard, does not allow 3rd party apps to be installed (the system is locked). So to many people, they feel like the iPod/iPhone is in jail (the potential deliberately crippled). Jailbreaking the iPhone/ipod is nothing more than a hack - a hack that opens up the system so apps can be copied to and from it.

Now that my iPod is jailbroken, I can add apps to it and it has pretty much become a PDA.

Sounds nifty! How are you liking it? I use my cell phone for all my scheduling and appointments. Do you think your iPods doing the job well for you?
