Raffles Terrace

… Singaporean cuisine restaurant in Ginza’s new shopping mall, Marronnier Gate.
I had been walking around today for 6-7 hours non-stop (shopping) and when I reached Marronnier Gate shopping mall, I decided to call it quits, sit down, and grab some grub. So… I ended up in a Singaporean restaurant.

The place is pretty neat and clean (obviously, since this shopping mall is new) but I’m really not sure if Singaporean restaurants are supposed to look like this. Afterall, I’ve never been to Singapore before and nor do I know what some of the stereo-typical Singaporean things are. To be honest, this place, with it’s old style mandarin music, seemed more like 1940’s Shanghai to me. But anyway…

The menu also seemed pretty decent but when my time came to order, the waiter dude told me, Hainanese Chicken is popular and was sold out!! WTF?! Of course it’s popular, that’s the famous Singaporean local’s favourite, doh! Man, I still can’t believe they didn’t have enough chicken! Totally ruined my mood! P*ssed me off big time! When I want my chicken, I want my chicken!

Anyway, let’s change the subject before I get carried away. The service here was decent, and the atmosphere was also decent. Food wise, I felt the dishes were somewhat weak in flavour. That’s not to say it was bland. Singaporean food and Chinese food has always crossed me as being high in flavour/taste (and greesy) but the meal I got here was not the case. Well, I guess it was watered down for the Japanese, then.
And now, it’s “price time” again. Everything below set me back JP¥5,940 which I guess is not too expensive considering this place is in Ginza (expensive land) and inside a brand new shopping mall. Next time, I’m defo gonna try out Hainan Jeefan Shokudo which Jon recommended me a while back. CHICKEN, CHICKEN, HERE I COME!!

Mango lassi

Beef, chicken and pork satay

Beef hor fun (flat noodles)

Prawn roll

Prawn laksa (coconut curry noodles)
Keep those food related posts coming! Love it!
I don’t see much hor fun in that hor fun dish!
From the look of it, the interior is modelled after Raffles Hotel in Singapore. Singapore has a lot of colonial styled buildings (just like HK too) and Raffles being the most famous of all. The food looks ok… wished I could taste them and give my comment. Ed, you must try the Chicken Rice and give me your comments. Wish you luck in your quest for a good Hainanese Chicken Rice!
