Lizard wine

Was in some liquor store in Shibuya last week with a couple of guys after work and came across this narley stuff.

I’ve seen all kinds of creatures and/or limbs in wines before in Chinese herbal shops such as: snake, new-born rats, tiger willy, ox testicles, + whatever else you can think of. I just didn’t expect this stuff to make it out of those shops into your average liquor store in Tokyo.

Man, this kinda stuff is super-duper horrible! How can people drink this stuff… uuuurrrrgh! Then again, I guess this is probably no less disgusting than say… chicken or beef soup to a vegetarian?

This stuff was trendy in Tokyo for a while around 1990-95. I remember there were a few bars in Shinjuku that had all the lizard, snake, turtle wines. I have tried all of them and they taste like an aquarium mixed with alcohol.

That’s *gnarly*… You can get all that good stuff in Yokohama’s chinatown. There’s one shop that has tiger penis and all that.

    narley
An adjective used to describe a noun, in which said noun could be alternatively described as “totally sick”, “radical”, or “wicked”.

    gnarly
An adjective; used to describe anything really far out and amazing, not necessarily lovely; an extraordinary stunt, or event. Also, onomatopoeia.
