Creativity entries

I think I’ll spare you all with the superhero, movies, food, etc. related entries that has pretty much dominated this site in recent months. Truth is, I haven’t really been up to a great deal - got too much to stress about recently. From now, I think I’ll start to introduce a bit more entries on good creative/design stuff since, afterall, I’m from a creative background and work within the industry.

Being what I am and what I do, needless to say I spend a great deal of time on the web researching good designs whether it be packaging designs, print designs, web designs, etc. Well, actually, I look more into web design than anything else therefore most of my creativity categorised entries, from this day forward, will be in this genre.

Quick question, when was the last time you came across a site that was jaw-dropping? Sadly to say, I cannot even remember when the last time was when a website blew my pants off into the oblivion (yes, I’m an ass and an arrogant one at that). I contribute this to the fact that I have looked at too many websites out there and to me, seems like everything that needs to be done, has been done. But anyway…

The website I wish to bring to your attention today is Platin for its ‘aesthetic’ qualities. Platin utilises flash, has a simple layout with beautiful harmonious colours, a simple navigation structure, and subtle animations. Because the website is not available in English, from my quick click-through it seems like it is an online showroom for some future residential condominiums - and a very elegant and beautifully illustrated one it is. It is very comfortable to look at.

Remember, I am recommending this website purely for it’s ‘aesthetics’ and not about whether I think it’s concept works or not, or if the styling is suitable for it’s purposes, etc. It would take me forever to evaluate and write that kinda stuff. Not that I would be able to anyway based on the fact the website is not in English hence I know nothing about the company, it’s product, it’s message, etc., etc.

Web designers have become more playful in their design, and the use of animation has also become more tasteful and subtle than ever before. I came across a book “The Whole New Mind” that has given me some new direction of how to rejuvenate myself as a designer. The author of the book is not a designer (he was a speechwriter for Bill Clinton), but he seems to have good insight into the trend of design.
