1881 Heritage
… in Tsim Sha Tsui near the water front. Not a great deal of people knew this place existed before mainly because the compound was completely covered by trees. 1881 Heritage was the former Marine Police Headquarters Compound (hence you may see large machine guns at the front of the building in my photos). Apparently this place was about to get knocked down but some people were against it therefore as a compromise, it is turned into a shopping complex.
1881 Heritage shopping complex is only partially ready – most store fronts are still boarded up and construction is ongoing. The stores that are close to ready, I’m sure you can recognise the brands. Yep, this place is gonna house all the big brands like Rolex, Tiffany, Mont Blanc, Cartier, etc., etc.
1881 Heritage will soon join the other few billions of shopping malls in Hong Kong. Shopping malls spring up literally within 100 yards of each other (ok, that was a bit of an exaggeration) these days in Hong Kong. I guess it’s a way to milk the rich China mainlanders dry now that they can freely travel between Hong Kong and China.
Hong Kong has so lost it’s British heritage during the last decade. It’s a shame.

It is a mega shame! I felt like there were millions of shopping centres as well last time I went in 07 but the thing is, they were all packed out like hell!
