Ngong Ping 360 Cable Car

Riding the Ngong Ping 360 Cable Car (5.7km bi-cable ropeway) from Tung Chung towards Lantau island to see the Tian Tan Buddha Statue.

For the 25-minute ride, I took the slightly more expensive Crystal Cabin. What is the difference? Well, erm… the floor is glass so you see right through it into the distance below.

I’m in a separate boarding line with no wait. Seems like no one wanted to pay the extra cash for the Crystal cabin.

Oh, speaking of which, for the ‘normal cabins’, you will need to share with strangers. If you don’t want to share with strangers, you can opt for the ‘private cabin service’ which costs HK$2,400 (standard cabin) and HK$2,900 (Crystal cabin). Is that expensive? Well, thats approx. 12x the price difference.

Like said, I opted for the crystal cabin but because no one else paid for that, I had the cabin to myself! Hehe.

Off we go.

Not too high… yet.

The suspension distances is crazy! The mid point towers are soooooo far apart! To be very honest, I was very scared.

Heading up and over the first mountain.

To the left is the HK International airport.

Looking back. Tung Ching isn’t as densely populated as Kowloon and Hong Kong. Afterall, it’s a bit far.

Over the first mountain now.

That’s a long way down. At this point, I was beyond very scared – my heart started skipping beats.

Crossing from mountain to mountain.

At the peak, it got misty accompanied with rain…

… then it got super misty and super duper windy! The day before, a typhoon passed by. By this point, I was so frikkin’ scared, I almost succumbed to an involuntary bowel movement!

I swear to god, I ain’t taking this cable car again (which is why I took the bus back down when I left).

Finally, the end in sight… phwew.

From here, Ngong Ping Village, it’s a 5 minute stroll passing many attractions, retail, and dining places before reaching the Tian Tan Buddha Statue.

Took the cable car ride to Lantau Island too. Damn right it’s scary, but really scenic too. Well worth the money imo.
