Trafalgar Square
Trafalgar Square is a square in central London, England. With its position in the heart of London, it is a tourist attraction; and one of the most famous squares in the United Kingdom and the world. At its centre is Nelson’s Column (Lord Nelson (aka. Horatio Nelson) standing at the top), which is guarded by four lion statues at its base.
The name commemorates the Battle of Trafalgar (1805), a British naval victory of the Napoleonic Wars. In short, this is where Lord Nelson kicked Napolean’s butt! Unfortunately, Lord Nelson met his death at the Battle of Trafalgar.
The National Gallery is also here in Trafalgar Square. If you walk straight down past Nelson’s Column, you will see the Admiralty Arch. Then straight down from Admiralty Arch, you’ll end up at Buckingham Palace.
