iMac - brief hands on

Yep, as I said I would in the morning (in the previous post), I headed off to Apple Store in Ginza this afternoon to take a look at the industrial design of the new iMac. So how was it?
2 commentsNew iMac
You know, I’m not even sure I like the new design of the new iMac. Well, if we can even call it a new design, that is…
Aluminum… nice. Glass… nice. But the shape remains the same amid a bit thinner (love to see how well it deals with the heat). And I certainly don’t know what is with the thick black frame all around the screen; makes the screen look bigger while making the outer bevel look thinner? Just something to make it more aesthetically pleasing? From the CG renders, I don’t think I dig it. I guess I’ll just have to see the real thing for myself. Actually, I think I’ll head off to see it tomorrow…
5 commentsiPhone finally arrives
And thank god for that. No, not because I’m really into this thing. Its more like, ‘it’s finally over’ so the Mac related sites I usually visit can finally talk about something else.
Jeez, for weeks, every Mac site I read has talked about nothing other than the iPhone. Seriously, I mean talked about nothing. Daily updates were iPhone, iPhone, iPhone! Things like… AT&T iPhone training manual released, iPhone launch guide released, AT&T’s EDGE is slow, iPhone has new battery, free iPhone for employees, etc., etc., etc. It was really getting to me. I didn’t bother to read those articles, just the titles showing up constantly on my RSS reader was enough to drive me nuts.
4 commentsWorked up about iPhone again
After 6 months since the iPhone announcement, I’m worked up about it again after seeing these new commercials.
To be very honest, I kinda forgot about the iPhone after the announcement. Afterall, the announcement was in early January and the thing doesn’t ship till the end of this month in US. I mean, 6-7 months from announcement till launch is a very long time. Long enough for me to forget just how awesome the user interface is. Basically, for the last few months, I just didn’t catch onto the hype nor thought much about the iPhone. But after seeing the new commercials and seeing the user interface in action again, boy all I can say (again) is, this thing is incredible!
I’m still waiting to see a new iPod based on the iPhone’s technology! It’s taking forever…
4 commentsPantone folder icons
I’ve been rooting through my hard drive for the last day or two and backing up data just in case this silly iMac decides to suddenly die on me. Totally forgot I even had these cool Mac OSX folder icons until now. So glad I found them again (can’t remember where I downloaded them from either, sorry). Don’t you just love Pantone?
2 commentsError: 2STH/1/2:CPU T-Diode
The problem I was having with my 20-inch iMac G5 2.1Ghz (iSight) where the computer would just suddenly ‘fall asleep’ is still happening. I finally had the time to run the hardware test DVD just now and the following error was returned:
Logic Board Error
Code: 2STH/1/2:CPU T-Diode
After googling 2STH/1/2:CPU T-Diode (not the best of keywords) and snooping around on Apple’s very own support forums, I found out that it has something to do with the logical board (and power unit?) overheating. To top it off, I am far from being alone and that this problem has been going on since the first generation iMac G5s! And it is so typical for Apple to not give a damn and continue to let known problems plague future releases. As much as I love the looks of Apple designs, they just don’t work when it comes to engineering! The current iMacs house the flat panel display, the CPU, the power unit, etc., all in a 2-inch thin case. Basically, with all those heat generating components in an awfully thin case, no wonder the unit overheats!
11 commentsSony’s iPod docking speakers
… the iPod Audio Docking Stationspacer CPF-IP001. Hahahahaha… Sony has finally surrendered to the iPod’s popularity. Sony should stop updating their MP3 players every 90 days - the amount of MP3 players (and digicams) Sony throws out in a year is crazy!
Anyway, the speaker is equipped with an ipod connector and is compatible with 1G and 2G Nano, 4G and 5G iPods, and the 1G Mini iPod. The speaker includes a subwoofer with a powerful S-Master amplifier for superior sound yet it is small and light enough to be placed in any room of your home. Of course, a remote is included.
To be honest, I like the look of these speakers but the price tag is rather heavy. Actually, come to think of it, if I ever do buy a pair of speakers for my iPod, it will be either Apple’s iPod Hi-Fi, or nothing. Hahahahaha… bet you saw that coming! I’m such a sucker for all things Apple… (^_^;)

Well, the much rumoured widescreen iPod, touch screen interface, etc., happens to be the new revolutionary Apple cellphone, iPhone. It runs Mac OSX and is basically the internet in your pocket! A combined widescreen iPod, mobile phone and internet communicator, is just 11.6mm wide, and with a touch screen (no keypad)! An incredible device!
To be honest, even from years ago, I didn’t think too much of an Apple cellphone. I thought, besides putting iChat on there, what else can they do? No way would they ever be able to beat some of the cellphone makers in Japan. Even today, before MacWorld kicked off, I still wasn’t excited about an Apple phone. But now, after seeing/reading about what it can do, I’m totally gobsmacked!! Apple has reinvented the phone, period! I so frikkin’ want one!!
All this bolds well for a new, wide-screen, multi-touch iPod! It has to be just around the corner!
