Sony NEX-5

Sony Nex-5

If there is any other company, besides Apple, who values industrial design, it clearly has to be Sony. Sony always designs beautiful products. Just take a look at their upcoming digicam, the NEX-5. It’s small and looks gorgeous… I want one!!

Recent tidbits

Moleskine

I’ve been rather busy with work-related stuff recently hence didn’t write much. Not that I write all that much anyway. Snooped around my iPhone 3G and realised that I actually have photos of all kinds. Some I wanted to write about, others I just took cuz I had nothing better to do. Might as well not waste them so I’ll post them all in this entry.

Nikon D700

Oooo-er! Nikon announces their new full-frame sensor ‘compact-professional’ DSLR, the D700, which sits between their D300 and D3. No doubt, this cam is positioned to take on the yet-to-be-announced upgrade to the Canon 5D (Canon 5D came out nearly 3 years ago therefore expect an updated superior version soon).

Long time no see… Nikon

I’ve kinda decided I will try and carry my DSLR around with me on a daily basis. This is because I cannot even remember when the last time was when I turned the thing on! I really ought to use it more.

Xmas came early

about_03.jpg

Update 2007.11.28: Hahahaha… I was just ass-ing around. You guys really thought I would get a D300? During the last 14 months of owning the D80, I think I’ve only used it a dozen times or so. Although I’m really tempted to get a new DSLR, I really cannot justify it at the moment. I’d rather spend the money on a new Mac (I’m still on PPC). So yeah, no D300 for me, sorry (to be honest, I did not ever say ‘I bought’ the D300. This entry was left blank (^_-;))

Nikon D300

Oh man! Now that the new Nikon D300 (pictured above) is just one week away till release (in Japan), I can feel the evil whispering in my ear, “Hey Ed, you’ve had that Nikon D80 for 14 months now. Isn’t it time to upgrade to a new camera that leans a little more towards the pro models?”.

Huh? Nikon D40?

nikond40_sml.jpgApparently, photos of a new Nikon D-SLR have been leaked by some German reseller over the last couple of days and the net is raving and debating as to whether this a real deal. To be honest, with all the photos available, I suspect it’s gotta be real. I mean, even if you were a good photoshop-per and had masses amount of time on your hands, would you really bother to photoshop four (or more) images of a camera? I know I wouldn’t…

The badge on the camera in the images clearly says D40, the whole body is more round than any other D-SLR Nikon has ever produced, and the top LCD status panel is missing. Hmmmmm… I’m kinda wondering, does Nikon really need this model? I mean, right now, the D50 is Nikon’s entry level D-SLR and for its low price, it is one darn good camera. So, where would this D40 fit in and at what price point? I really think it’s kinda silly to strip more features off the D50 just so they can throw a ¥40,000 (just my guess) D-SLR onto the market under the D40 branding (obviously, features will definitely have be less than the D50 to justify the price difference between these 2 models). In that case, is it still worthy of being a D-SLR? Oh well, we’ll find out what’s with this model in due time…

MINOX Classic Camera Leica M3

DCC_LeicaM3_sml.jpgIsn’t this cool? With Leica being one of the best camera makers out there (and definitely the best guys at retro designs), while Minox are known for their miniturising skills, you expect nothing but the best from this miniaturized Minox Classic Leica M3 camera.

And that, you get! This camera packs 4 megapixel resolution, it’s simple and fast to operate, has 32mb internal memory that can store up to 99 images, an LCD display on the back providing information on the number of shots, and the many fine details in metal make the MINOX DCC Leica M3 stand out in a striking way. Good stuff!

Carl Zeiss lenses for Nikon F mount

CZ.jpgPhotokina 2006:
“Zeiss has announced no less than four new ZF series manual focus prime lenses for Nikon F mount. First come the Distagon T* 35 mm F2.0 and 25 mm F2.8 ZF lenses, promising fast wide angle.

Next the Makro-Planar T* 50 mm F2.0 and 100 mm F2.0 ZF lenses, a combination of excellent, sharp macro performance and a very fast maximum aperture. These lenses range in price from US$824 (the two Distagon lenses) to US$1,749 for the Makro-Planar 100 mm F2.0.”

Well, the Distagon T* 2/35 ZF is the one for me. Would have prefered something more like 18mm f1.4, though. Hahahaha… man, that would rock!
