The best looking BlackBerry?

bb_sml.jpgLast night, I met up for dinner with 2 friends whom are visiting from Hong Kong. One of them had this BlackBerry device (supposedly very popular with business people in US?) which has to be the least ugly model I have seen. It’s a little wide but its not so thick nor long and the screen is nice. But don’t ask me which model this is, I wouldn’t know to save my life (this is the first one I’ve ever touched).

Despite all models being… well… ugly, they do seem rather convenient having the whole keyboard layed out. But I’d very much prefer not having the keyboard just thrown onto the body like that - more thought should have went into the design. This brings me to the Japanese equivilents, namely Wilcom’s W-ZERO3 and Softbank’s X01HT. Much better thought out and sexier in appearance, don’t you think? This is design…

When insults had class

Sticking in the daggers

  • “A modest little person, with much to be modest about.”
    Winston Churchill
  • “He has never been known to use a word that might send a reader to the dictionary.”
    William Faulkner (about Ernest Hemingway)
  • “Poor Faulkner. Does he really think big emotions come from big words?”
    Ernest Hemingway (about William Faulkner)
  • “He can compress the most words into the smallest idea of any man I know.”
    Abraham Lincoln
  • “I am enclosing two tickets to the first night of my new play, bring a friend… if you have one.”
George Bernard Shaw to Winston Churchill
  • “Cannot possibly attend first night, will attend second… if there is one.”
    Winston Churchill, in response

Hahahahaha… the rest are here .

A few things

No more .mac
I’ve let my .mac account expire after 5-6 years because I can no longer justify paying ¥10,000 anually for just it’s email service and iChat (I don’t use the other features such as syncing, backup, etc.). I’ve already notified everyone in my addressbook about the email address change but since I don’t really update my addressbook all that often, there’s a great chance that some of you didn’t get this email from me. Nothing much was written in the email besides, “don’t email me at my .mac account anymore”. + my alternative email address was provided. So, if you didn’t get this email from me with my alternative email address, just drop me a message via the contact form on this site.

Spammed like crazy
Ever since I made the switch to WordPress, this site is attracting spam commets like crazy! Blocking their IPs is pointless since they are able to change their IP addresses with ease. Instead, I’ve enabled the “moderate comments” function just so these Prozac, Viagra, enlarge your willy, and what-have-you messages/links do not make it to the comments area… sigh.

Strong quake at 6:30-ish?

Was the earthquake really that big this morning? Or was it just that I wasn’t deep asleep? I mean, the quake actually woke me up for a bit. Well, just enough time for me to check the time before falling asleep again… (-_-;)

Update:

A quake with a preliminary magnitude of 5.0 quake shook Tokyo and its vicinity Saturday morning, the Meteorological Agency said.

The quake struck at 6:38 a.m. (2138 GMT Friday) and was centered off the coast of Chiba Prefecture, the agency said in a statement.

There were no danger of tsunami, it said.

There were no immediate reports of injuries or damage from the quake.

Ah, OK. It was biggish…

Transformers… bed

bonbon's Doc sofa/bunk bedFor those in Tokyo who share a tiny apartment, or for those who live in a tiny apartment and on some occassions want a friend to stay for the night but have no room to layout a second futon, bonbon has just the thing for you.

Doc, a sofa with removable covers and integrated/patented mechanism which transforms the sofa into a bunk bed. Doc XL furnishes the day area and with a simple movement transforms into a practical ready made bunk bed with integrated supporting ladder and protection guard.

How’s that for a good design?! A great looking sofa with great practicality! The downside: you’re gonna be shipping this from England = expensive!

Hello Kitty TV

HKTV.jpgSanrio, the cute character inventors, will roll out this Apple shaped LCD TV on September 27. And which of their character is better to slap on this thing than Hello Kitty? Yep, that flat white cat that is gaining popularity across the globe.

The LCD screen measures 9.6 inches with a resolution of 800×600, the speakers are on either side of the screen doors and will be revealed once opened, the TV set weighs 7kg, measures W:355mm D:115mm H:420mm, power ranges from 100ー240V (basically, universal), and will be available in Japan via Sanrio’s online store for ¥84,000.

If I had a daughter, I’d probably definitely get this cuz I personally think it is cute and would look great in a child’s bedroom or play area. But I don’t have a kid so that’s that. Hmmmmm… if my brother’s girls were still 8-12, I’d probably get it for them. How would a 14 and 16yr old girl look with one of these?

Gmail security/privacy flaw?

gmail_q.jpgI’m a little concerned about my Gmail account recently. For the last few months, I have been receiving some emails which were not addressed to me. It seems to be addressed to others with the exact same letters/words in their email addresses as mine.

For example, I have an email address like “superdude@gmail”, no dot, no hyphen, just 2 straight words. If an email is addressed to, let’s say, “super.dude@gmail”, I’d receive it. Same goes for an address like “super.dudekb@gmail” (I think).

Tokyo blackout

Tokyo blacked out this morning and apparantly caused a bit of a chaos. But this happened at a time when I literally just hit the sack so I didn’t even know. Actually, come to think of it, I think my area was not affected cuz now that I’ve woken up, my aircon is still running…

Happy with life in your country?

map.gif

If it is happiness you are seeking, a move to Denmark could be in order, according to the first scientist to make a world map of happiness.

Denmark came top, followed closely by Switzerland and Austria. The UK ranked 41st. Zimbabwe and Burundi came bottom.

Mr White, who is an analytic social psychologist at the university, said: “When people are asked if they are happy with their lives, people in countries with good healthcare, a higher GDP [gross domestic product] per capita, and access to education were much more likely to report being happy.”

New Name. New design. New software. New server.

My previous blog site was launched exactly 3 years ago and is seriously starting to look it’s age therefore I decided it is time for a re-design. And here it is! What do you think? Didn’t think I could make it any more simpler than the my previous blog? Hahahahahaha….
