Cellphone pics of Ulala

Ulala (XX Nov 2001 - 18 Apr 2007)

Here are some collage of Ulala photos taken via my many cellphones during the last few years. I have more cellphone pics of Ulala than from a normal camera since my cellphone is always close by allowing me to take snaps of him whenever I feel like…

Long time no ramen

ramen-small.jpgI’m not a real fan of ramen therefore I can’t even remember when the last time I ate ramen was so I guess this is an indication in itself that it is time. This ramen shop is kinda new-ish (maybe from 4 months ago?) and is located right outside the exit of the station near my home. Whenever I walked past, regardless of time, there is always a queue even though there is another ramen shop right across the road. Due to it’s popularity, I decided to give it a try tonight.

Thinking I was big and what-have-you, I ordered miso soup base ramen with extra char-sui and negi (leek) toppings as well as gyoza (dumplings). What a bad mistake! The ramen itself was already big and the extra toppings made it a monster! The taste, needless to say, is good hence this places popularity. And, I didn’t finish it - managed to throw down 2/3 of the ramen and 3 out of 6 gyozas. What a waste! As with all ramen, you always feel bloated and heavy afterwards (and sometimes a little sickly feeling too)…

Yakiniku, yakiniku, yakiniku!

yakiniku_sml.jpgAfter my disappointment with last month’s all-U-can-eat yakiniku, I’ve been dying to eat yakiniku again so I decided to go yesterday.

I headed off to a yakiniku restaurant in Takadanobaba which opens until 5am daily. The restaurant isn’t exactly expensive but the taste was sooooooo much better! Best of all, I had lots of vouchers which entitles me to 50% off most of the dishes. But the silly thing is (I didn’t know), you can only use 2 vouchers per visit! In short, I got discount for only 2 types of meat… doh!

Ikea Tokyo

11.jpgFinally made it to Ikea in Minami-Funabashi yesterday after wanting to go for months. You’re probably wondering why I wanted to go since I am from England and that we have our fair share of Ikea stores there. Well, it’s just one of those things: something new opens, everyone is talking about it, everyone is going, everyone is queuing for ages to get in, etc. Yep, that’s all - sad, I know…

Well, what can I say? It’s Ikea as I know it: it’s a huge warehouse, the exact same floor plan that’s more than a decade old, has a cafeteria, etc. But most surprisingly, a lot of the stuff is dirt cheap just like back home! I was expecting the prices of things to at least double the price of what it would cost back in Europe (anything in Tokyo that is imported from the west tends to get a hefty price tag. Except for my income, that is). Actually, some things here seem cheaper…

All-U-can-eat Yakiniku is worst!

1.jpgDarn! It’s a fact! All-you-can-eat Yakiniku (Korean grill) is the worst. Not in terms of feeling sick after a binge rampage, but in terms of the food quality. Sure, most (if not all) all-you-can-eats-of-anything are usually not so good but Yakiniku is the absolute worst! Usually the meat for Yakiniku is well marinated and has great flavour but in the case for all-you-can-eat, either they cut down on the amount of seasoning, or they cut down the amount of time needed to marinate, or whatever. It tastes so bland (hey, don’t you dare say anything about British food!)!!

This is probably the third time I had all-you-can-eat Yakiniku (at different places) and the quality is the same! For today’s meal price, I could have gone elsewhere and ordered better meat off the a la carte menu… sigh. No more all-you-can-eat Yakiniku for me. Enough said…

Ooooops! Forgot about the Mac

macpro_sml.jpgHahahahaha… I can’t believe I totally forgot about the Mac Pro. Usually, when Apple releases a new product, I would go to see it in a shop as soon as it arrives on our shores. But this time, the Nikon D80’s announcement totally overshadowed the Mac Pro for me. I mean, I literally forgot the Mac pro existed until I accidently came across it today in Shinjuku… hahahahahaha! I think the reasons being: 1) Recent Macs didn’t get new enclosure designs. Since Macs have moved to Intel CPUs, I believe new enclosures are totally justifiable across the whole line of Intel Macs. So, yeah, I’m disappointed in this department. 2) There is no native Adobe CS2 for Intel Macs. Basically, I live on Photoshop. Without it, an Intel Mac is meaningless no matter how fast they claim to be. 3) I can’t afford a new computer at the moment.

No D80 pre-production units

d80_flyer.jpg… in any shop for me to see, darn! All they had were promo flyers with no price point either. I think I will head off to the Nikon showroom in Shinjuku tomorrow and see if it’s there. Anyway, instead, I picked up a good few Nikon D-SLR brochures so I can compare every model. Damn, that Nikon D200 is so nice! And so friggin’ expensive too! I never really realised before but today I spent some time messing with it and I’m totally in love. But the problem is, there are just too many buttons and switches on this thing that I don’t even know what they are for. Doh! Definitely too pro of a cam for someone like me therefore I think the Nikon D80 better suits my needs and my low budget…
