New Panasonic D-Snaps
Panasonic updates their D-snap MP3 players today introducing the high-end SD800N and the lower-end SD400V.
I’ve always respected Panasonic’s industrial designs for their previous D-snap models because they always had unique and attractive designs instead of just copying the ever-so-popular iPod. But with this new model, it basically has “iPod nano” etched across it with a touch of Sony. Shape, size and controller wise, it’s borrowed from the iPod while the finish and LCD treatment is from the Sony MP3 Walkman.
1 commentSuperman Returns
Finally watched Superman Returns today with Casey in some far off land. Today is the movie’s debut in Japan - nearly a whole 2 months after America’s release! And the cinema we were in was half empty. Can’t say the same for cinemas in Tokyo with a new film screening.
Anyway, the movie was not as good as I had expected but I still enjoyed it to a high degree. And boy, does Superman benefit from today’s CGI technology or what? He looked great! I personally think the casting of Brandon Routh as Superman and Kevin Spacey as Lex Luther are absolutely perfect choices! Brandon looked convincingly cool as Superman and convincingly nerdy as Clark Kent. And Kevin Spacey, he was pure wacky as Lex Luther!
Massive spoiler! Turn away now if you haven’t seen the movie yet…
2 commentsNikon D80 price
This is weird… today I took 2 pics with my cellphone of a promo flyer in BIC (Yurakucho) which actually lists the price for the upcoming Nikon D80 (and lens kits). But for some reason, I can’t seem to find the images from my cellphone. This is not the first time this has happened, dammit!
Actually, come to think of it, maybe my cellphone is trying to tell me that it is time for it to be replaced with something newer and meaner. Hahahahaha… don’t you just love it when you can always make up excuses like this to justify buying new stuff? Anyway…
Here are the prices and kit combos which will be available from September 1st and September 15th (for the DX18-135 kit):
- Nikon D80 - AF-S DX18-135 Lens Kit: JP¥159,800
- Nikon D80 - AF-S DX18-70 Lens Kit: JP¥149,800
- Nikon D80 - Body only: JP¥119,800
Tokyo blackout
Tokyo blacked out this morning and apparantly caused a bit of a chaos. But this happened at a time when I literally just hit the sack so I didn’t even know. Actually, come to think of it, I think my area was not affected cuz now that I’ve woken up, my aircon is still running…
No commentsAll-U-can-eat Yakiniku is worst!
Darn! It’s a fact! All-you-can-eat Yakiniku (Korean grill) is the worst. Not in terms of feeling sick after a binge rampage, but in terms of the food quality. Sure, most (if not all) all-you-can-eats-of-anything are usually not so good but Yakiniku is the absolute worst! Usually the meat for Yakiniku is well marinated and has great flavour but in the case for all-you-can-eat, either they cut down on the amount of seasoning, or they cut down the amount of time needed to marinate, or whatever. It tastes so bland (hey, don’t you dare say anything about British food!)!!
This is probably the third time I had all-you-can-eat Yakiniku (at different places) and the quality is the same! For today’s meal price, I could have gone elsewhere and ordered better meat off the a la carte menu… sigh. No more all-you-can-eat Yakiniku for me. Enough said…
No commentsI hate humid summers
Those who know me are aware that I don’t handle heat so well. Its like, I’m hot all year round! So when the hot and humid Tokyo summer arrives, I literally go through hell which is why I keep a constant stock of ice lollies. What you see here, I get through in 2-3 days. This probably explains why I have stomachpains and diarrhea quite often (at least once a week!).
I think it’s kinda weird. It’s not like I’m fat or anything but I sweat easily and often. Especially when I have a lot on my mind, having to get something done in time, etc. I also have a short and bad tempered too. Maybe I’m just a tense guy… and oh so hot (nudge, nudge, wink, wink)…. Maybe I should learn to meditate…
3 commentsOoooops! Forgot about the Mac
Hahahahaha… I can’t believe I totally forgot about the Mac Pro. Usually, when Apple releases a new product, I would go to see it in a shop as soon as it arrives on our shores. But this time, the Nikon D80’s announcement totally overshadowed the Mac Pro for me. I mean, I literally forgot the Mac pro existed until I accidently came across it today in Shinjuku… hahahahahaha! I think the reasons being: 1) Recent Macs didn’t get new enclosure designs. Since Macs have moved to Intel CPUs, I believe new enclosures are totally justifiable across the whole line of Intel Macs. So, yeah, I’m disappointed in this department. 2) There is no native Adobe CS2 for Intel Macs. Basically, I live on Photoshop. Without it, an Intel Mac is meaningless no matter how fast they claim to be. 3) I can’t afford a new computer at the moment.
Lots of DS cases
Today, I finally got around to do some shopping for my nephews and ended up buying stuff for myself too. That’s precisely why I shouldn’t leave my home - I have to buy something regardless of big or small, useful or not, sigh…
Anyway, the “Lite Slipon” socks for the Nintendo DS Lite I pictured here, were not the only variations available. Today, I also came across 2 more variations: a black and a brown leather-like version. Just like the gold and silver ones, they looked kinda cheap. The natural sock-looking ones were better.
No commentsNo D80 pre-production units
… in any shop for me to see, darn! All they had were promo flyers with no price point either. I think I will head off to the Nikon showroom in Shinjuku tomorrow and see if it’s there. Anyway, instead, I picked up a good few Nikon D-SLR brochures so I can compare every model. Damn, that Nikon D200 is so nice! And so friggin’ expensive too! I never really realised before but today I spent some time messing with it and I’m totally in love. But the problem is, there are just too many buttons and switches on this thing that I don’t even know what they are for. Doh! Definitely too pro of a cam for someone like me therefore I think the Nikon D80 better suits my needs and my low budget…
